I had a good time painting these boys up. From the first I loved their look and style. Proper dwarves, no doubt. Here's the best pic I could snap of them...
My next main project will be some hairy fellows from Germania. A couple of weeks ago, I snagged a great deal from Northstar for a 'Clash of Empires' ready-made Ancient German force made up of Crusader Miniatures at almost 50% off and am eagerly awaiting them in the mail.
While looking around for pics of Ancient Germans I found this fantastic work. They were painted by Zerotwentythree and will serve as my inspiration. I think those dark colours and body paint will look great on 150+ hairy barbarians when they take the field.

The Dwarf King and his Lords
Here he is without a banner. Poor fellow. I may have to employ one of my more talented pals to make him one...

Stalwart dwarves.
Classed as heavy infantry in Fantasy Impetus, these guys are my main force. I have eight units of these. I'm looking at unarmoured Norman spearmen from the Crusader Miniatures range as a human light infantry back-up for them. The Dwarf Lord is up next as soon as I can bash up a suitable banner for him. I'm not too good at flags but I'll see what I can do.
If used for Kings of War, the boys will be deployed back-to-back as regiments.

Two more done.
The army is coming along now. One thing my dwarves are lacking is some type of cavalry. I plan on fielding a human allied contingent to fill that role. I've been eyeing some figures from Musketeer Miniatures' Goth/Germanic line. I especially like the Bucellarii/Commitatus figures because they've got cloaks. I like cloaks.
These are going to be the elite King's Guard sort of boys.
I like dwarf ranged units because they can crack heads as well as shoot.
A group shot.

Glad to be back in civilization and an update.
Finally home after almost seven weeks working up in the oilpatch. I'm physically exhausted but taking some dwarves with me to work on while I was up there means at least my mind is still whole.
I knocked up two of the units with this basing method. It's pretty basic but it was quick to do and that's what's important to me.

Axes of the Dwarves!
The Dwarf force grows. Well, my bases finally shipped from Litko; 100x40mm, 3mm thickness. One of those will make a Fantasy Impetus unit and two of them back to back makes a Kings of War regiment. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy.

New Stuff
New units for my dwarves and orcs. Waiting on some shields and those damn bases that are taking forever...
Here's how they match up size-wise.

Dwarves
Here is the first unit of dwarves for Fantasy Impetus and Kings of War. Still waiting for my bases to arrive so I stuck 'em on a 100x50mm piece of foamcore. These fantastic figures are from Sgt Major Miniatures and are, in my mind, what dwarves should look like.
Here's a quick scale shot of one of the dwarves next to an Artizan and Gripping Beast viking.
